What Is Ceramic Paint Protection?
Ceramic Paint Protection Is a semi permanent coating applied over your paintwork. This layer hardens, forming a thin ‘glass’ like layer that can be applied over your paintwork, glass, wheels & trims.
This thin layer shield’s against UV rays & oxidisation, chemical etching and water spots.
The best or most practical part about a ceramic coated car, however is the hydrophobic properties. Making coated vehicles easier to clean due to the hydrophobic ‘self cleaning’ abilities.

90% of people have never heard of Ceramic Paint Protection before as it’s not a very common/standard practise in New Zealand. Unlike places such as the USA, where ceramic coating your new vehicle is a standard practise.
Typically ‘ceramic coated’ vehicles in Christchurch & NZ have been coated by the dealership directly or using a 3rd party installer before you pickup your new vehicle. Results vary hugely here as focus is on quantity not quality. There are generally no guarantees on lifespan or more importantly effective lifespan.
The most common coating/brand used in NZ is Duraseal. They’ve dominated the industry due to their long standing industry connections and lack of competing products. Duraseal is marketed with a “lifetime warranty”. This is a lifetime warranty on the product itself not your vehicle. And there are no guarentees on the effetive working lifespan of the product. (Does it deliver the same hydrophobic properties for years to come?) The answer here is usually no.
